How to baby proof your home

So, your baby is the naturally super-curious type who won’t miss a single chance to try something new? Or you’re simply alert in making sure the baby is safe at all times? Either way, good news is you can baby-proof your house to the point that you won’t even have to restrict her freedom, let alone stand above her at every time.
Being aware of each possible danger for your baby is crucial. Most babies are curious by nature, and you can’t blame them because they need to learn new things – they’ve just come to this world, after all! Electrical sockets, floor plants and cleaning products, to name a few, are among the home items posing a danger to your newborn, and you must learn a way to deal with that.

Here is a detailed guide on how to make the home environment safe for your little ones:

Living Areas
First and foremost, the living areas will be where your babies will spend most of their time in, a lot of the time alone. You must give great important to this zone:
  • All electrical sockets must be replaced with childproof ones.
  • Make sure, at all times, that there are no small items that the babies could swallow, because the will.
  • Sharp objects are super dangerous, remove them from sight.
  • You must make sure that the babies cannot get on the stairs, it is very dangerous for them. Putting gates at both ends is strongly recommended.
  • Keep tools and other furniture out of reach, especially among windows. Make sure furniture is tied well so it cannot be pulled down.

Kitchen
You will spend a lot of time in the kitchen, therefore, the baby will too.
  • We all know we love to put most of our cleaning and other hazardous stuff under the sink and in lower cabinets. If you have a baby, do not! Put everything as high as possible, baby must not be able to reach them.
  • Lock the oven door well and remove any magnets from anywhere in the kitchen. Babies will find a way to get to them, and might even swallow them.
Bathroom
Without you even noticing, your baby’s curiosity might well find them in the bathroom, checking stuff out.
  • No water standing still, anywhere!
  • Lid locks are a must.
  • Medication, cosmetics and cleaning stuff? Make sure you keep them so high it will take years for the baby to reach them. If they can, they will experiment with such dangerous stuff.
  • You must restrict the heated water temperature, so it won’t possible burn the baby in case they get to it.
  • Oh, and the obvious, get rid of any slightest possibility of the baby being locked in the bathroom.
Other
In addition to the main rooms that might pose a threat to your most loved ones, there are also other slightly less popular but just as dangerous areas you must be aware of.
  • You must ensure doors are well protected for your baby, especially see-through ones and ones you don’t want them to open. You can use doorknobs for the latter.
  • Either lock windows or install equipment which won’t allow the full opening of them. Set a fair length the windows can be opened just in case.
  • If you have a fireplace at home, make sure you cover it. Fireplaces are definitely going to raise the curiosity of little babies, who would love to crawl into that.

It is important to watch for any of the above and much more when having a baby. You never know what might turn up, and it’s much better to be super careful and alert than end up regretting it. In fact, the next time you go searching for baby products in Singapore or Malaysia, make sure to also keep an eye on any items that could help restrict the threatening areas of your home for your baby, they could be well worth it.
Babies do not know much about this world the first few years, therefore it is absolutely your responsibility to make sure they are well and safe.
